Preparing for the ’21 Legislative Session

UW Impact is preparing for a historic legislative session! With the ongoing pandemic, this session will look different from previous sessions. We want to ensure that our volunteers and advocates know what to expect as we continue to support the UW and public higher education in this new virtual environment.

Advocacy Training

On December 8, UW Impact held a virtual advocacy training for key volunteers. During the online meeting, we went over the basics of the Washington State Legislature, previewed the issues of the 2021 legislative session, and practiced our own advocacy stories for lawmakers in small breakout groups. You can view the recording of the training to get up to speed on how to advocate in the upcoming legislative session. Click here to view.

Legislative Preview

The world feels different right now, but some things are the same: We are forging ahead with our 7th annual Legislative Preview on the Thursday before session – though we won’t be in the HUB. Join us online on Thursday, January 7th for our 2021 Legislative Preview. This year’s preview is titled “Beyond Economic Mobility: Can Higher Education Advance Racial Equity?”

Leaders from the UW and the State Legislature will explore how, or if, higher education can address issues of systemic racism to achieve a more equitable society. State lawmakers will also share what’s in store for higher education in a very challenging budget session. Click here to register for the UW Impact Legislative Preview.
