2022 Legislative Priorities
Happy New Year, Huskies! The legislative session starts on January 10, 2022, and UW Impact is ready. We surveyed our alumni again in late 2021 to discern which higher education issues they cared about most. The answers were both clear and familiar: alums care about access and affordability, maintaining quality and excellence, and expanding high-demand degree opportunities.
One of the top items on the UW’s legislative agenda is compensation – an item shared by the other 5 public universities in Washington and the community and technical college system. The Legislature passed a $60B budget last session, but did not include salary increases for employees of state agencies. During a time of uncertainty and “The Great Resignation,” retention and recruitment are more important than ever to maintain UW’s exceptional quality and educational experience.
Join us to advocate for fair compensation, expansion of slots in computer science, and other issues this session. Be sure to click “Join UW Impact” in green at the top of the page to speak out on behalf of UW. We will send detailed emails which explain the issues and tell you how you can help. Thank you for using your voice!
