UW Impact Helps Save Millions in UW Research

We did it! Governor Inslee heard our advocacy message and announced his decision to veto elimination of the Life Sciences Discovery Fund in the 2014 supplemental budget.

In his press conference, Governor Inslee referenced the many letters of support he received for the LSDF. We know our advocates wrote the bulk of these letters, sending more than 1300 since the Legislature voted to eliminate the Fund.

Together, our advocates helped protect a program that’s created over 3,000 jobs and supported research in areas like breast cancer treatment, devices for stroke patient survivors, and Alzheimer’s disease diagnostics. A big thanks to all who are dedicated to building a strong future for UW research and Washington’s life sciences sector.

Congratulations to all higher education advocates for a positive session in 2014. We look forward to continued advocacy in 2015!
