2021 Mid-Session Legislative Update

We are more than halfway through the 2021 legislative session. Here is what you have helped us accomplish so far:

  • Since our annual Husky Caucus Day on February 18th, advocates have sent more than 600 emails to state legislators in support of funding for higher education.
  • Advocates have sent more than 300 emails in support of investment in UW Medicine for its COVID response and continued care, training, and research during these times.
  • UW Impact advocates have participated in 33 virtual meetings with elected officials.
  • Advocates have attended virtual Town Halls across the state to learn about priorities in their districts.

Have our voices been heard? We will find out when we see the proposed budgets from the House and Senate, expected within the next week.

Washington State Revenue Forecast

Today, March 17th, the Washington State Economic and Revenue Forecast Council released its quarterly report highlighting the state’s revenue projections. Their projection indicates that revenue through 2023 is expected to recover to pre-pandemic levels.

This report will be critical in informing lawmakers’ budget decisions during the remainder of the legislative session. With a positive revenue forecast plus your messages in support of higher education, we are optimistic for significant investment in post-secondary education – which is critical for a sustained economic recovery.

Please look for a UW Impact action alert regarding the proposed budgets in the coming weeks, and help us bring this investment home.

Thank you for your advocacy!
